August 13 Dinner with Corn

Eight days later - Ava and Brett's wish is granted.

After stuffed zucchini (brown basmati rice, onions, olive oil, tomatoes (Mexican midget) torpedo onions, growing home garlic, chicken sausage, palmers st. pesto), pasta salad, mango chutney, schlink haus Riesling leading to Bele Casel Prosecco - Sydney's dripping apricot tree provides the " fruit we can hand out on the way". If only there were someone somewhere to take it to.

8/17/03 Sunday

At last the journey resumes north on Ravenswood. Sydney and Phil are pushing. We don't get many comments except a thumbs up from a woman in an SUV. At Ravenswood and Sunnyside we found several fruit trees. Examples of which are in the cart. Phil saw a caterpillar dangling in it's nearly complete cocoon at Lawrence. I thought I had gotten lucky by finding an abandoned trek bike in the bushes along the Metra tracks, only to discover two people in the bushes with it. We are now having breakfast at Pauline's.

Jaded urban critters
No curiousity in those eyes
A film of fear and suspicion
I snese no humor
The question being
What is the nature of the threat we pose
Does the corn explode?
Doom by popcorn
What a neat trick that would be
But it's Sunday Morning
And the Intelligentsia is Dead
     Or Sleeping
     Or Drunk
Boredom is the worst form of Death
Perhaps if there were Nukes with Leaves
We might make time with the bougeousie
And get a yuk out of the stone of the city
Corn cart resting on a persion rug
It suddenly dawns on me
We are perfectly normal
All of us
A quiet stroll up Ravenswood
All of us are in the cart together
Resting on a Persian rug
As the squash makes it way up the wall
In the garden
