Got a ton of very strange medicines yesterday from the traditional herbal uighur hospital for my on again off again dysentary. Strange little tiny brown balls like something rolled by a dung beetle. And this jam stuff. And two sorts of mole type paste except it's definitely not mole. And some sort of very thick intense fruit drink medicine. Am a bit vague on how much to eat every day. I figure I'll just down as much as possible while here in kashgar because there's no way I'm taking it with me when we start moving again. I'd need a second backpack.

Have now taught the entire circus all the lyrics to hotel california. For some reason the uighurs are obsessed with this song. That and the sound track from Titanic which, thankfully, I don't know so can't teach them.

Am gorging on this internet access while I've got it. Good way to escape the sun in the middle of the day. I'm trying to figure out if I should continue touring with the dawaz troupe (which means another month and a half on the road) or if I should split and take a bus back north and try to see some other parts of xinjiang. Like someplace with grass instead of sand. Main incentive to go north is to try and catch the horse festival. Main incentive to stay with these guys is out of some perhaps stupid obsession to see things through to the bitter end. Not sure how much more usuable unrepetitious footage I'll amass. Guess I wouldn't think twice about it if I knew from the beginning how long the tour would be. Underestimating and discovering it's twice as long as expected is hard on the psyche.

Wish it wasn't so hot so I could think more clearly. Instead I just wander around looking at knives and rugs.

miss you, love d
